January 2012: the Intuitive-Energy Forecast is The Sand

Fast away the old year passes - so before we dive into my annual Intuitive Forecast for the Year Ahead (which will come after the 1st), lets look at the month of January and see what the year's beginning brings us. Fittingly for the start of the New Year, January's prevailing energy brings us to the beginning of a new cycle with The Sand ~

The Sand is a condition that subtle, forming, and subject to change. It asks us to be light on our feet, for now, ready to move in any direction when the way becomes clear. Yes, those sand dunes may look formidable right now, but they can change overnight when the wind comes in!

Even as we adapt to the changes swirling around us, fellow-travelers, we should stay grounded in our own essence. The higher vibration of this energy sets the stage for a birth of new consciousness. Let our groundedness be a foundation, not a trap, and be willing to explore new spaces in your own self-expression to world at large.

The year sails in on this energy, which actually begins the day on New Years Eve. Then we can practice staying grounded in the change for the entire month, getting ready for another peak of The Sand energy coming January 27-28.

"Vintage Ladies" Journal/Composition Book on Zibbet

I've been wanting to bring my collage skills into a practical mode, so last week I made several embellished composition books with collage covers. Here's a favorite; it's called "Vintage Ladies" and it uses images from the fabulously wonderful *The Graphics Fairy* blog:

Aren't these sepia-toned ladies adorable? I particularly like the row of ballerinas, but they all appeal to me. The entire front cover is painted with gloss medium, which forms a protective coating and also adds to the antique appearance. The blank signboard in the center is the perfect to write a name or title to identify the journal, and a fine-point permanent marker works great for writing over the clear coating.

You can see more views of this journal and her sisters at My Jan4insight Zibbet shop. I've also got this post listed in Brag Monday for December 12, 2011 at *The Graphics Fairy*

Energy Forecast for December 2011: The Patient Monk

Fittingly as we go into the last month of the year, dear readers, our prevailing energy-weather supports cycles of completion, merging, and reaching fulfillment. If it doesn't feel like that at the moment, though, it's because we are still working our way through the final Mercury Retrograde period of the year, which ends on December 13 at 6:43 pm Mountain Time, as well as approaching the last eclipse of the year (lunar) on December 10. To move through this turbulence, the cards advise us to express the Patience of the Monk:

image courtesy of  mantasmagorical at morguefile.com

We were are now is The Monk, an expression of seeking spiritual connection in a disciplined manner. It may be a rather solitary energy for some, but this is not required. Monks do live in communities, it seems. The key is to activate practices which give you spiritual connection on a consistent basis. It may be as simple as saying "Please" every morning, and "Thank You" each night.

Coming up ahead of us is The Star, the fulfillment of seeking and discovery at a high level. There are no holds barred when making your New Year's resolutions this year! Resolve to reach for the stars even as you commit to savor each moment, and approach it all with the joy of discovery.

Our higher self wants us to pay attention to The Tunnel. It seems like we've been in and out of this Tunnel - that challenging passage where the light is dim - all year. Now we have a chance to wrap up our lessons for the year, and get our inner connections in good working order. That is the true payoff of the journey through the Tunnel: finding an inner connection at such a deep level that it creates within us true accessibility to others.

Energies that will help us resolve this passage are the light of Patience, expression of the Egg, and the attitude of the Handle. The overlighting star of Patience allows us to give weight to our dreams and imaginings - the seed of manifestation. Plant it now to ripen during the next cycle. The Egg is our expression of new energy emerging from within; like a bird's egg it is fragile and requires our protection and nurturing. And it's up to each of us to take the initiative and grasp the Handle that opens the door to new opportunities.

Major themes for this reading involve digesting and integrating our Karmic lessons. Even as we achieve completion on one project, and allow ourselves a few moments to bask in the glow of satisfaction, there's another "I Am" to come along and start us off on a new journey. Take time out over the holiday season to pause in the moment and express gratitude and love for all those who support and share your journey through this life on earth plane!

This Blog has New Pages!

Look up at the new tab bar, just below the heading. I've decided to close my Geo-Glow Consulting business website (I'm not going to link it, because it's going away) and bring it here to this blog I've been writing for going on four years. For various reasons, but mainly because the website host got taken over by an evil right-wing company and raised the monthly fees, it's time to consolidate. And just like changing a phone number or moving house, it's a pain in the tookus, but it must be done. I've completed the first steps by pasting the website's text into the new blog pages. There's more tweaking and prettying-up to do, but you can start finding out about my metaphysically-oriented consulting services right now. Just click on a tab and enjoy!

Notable Quote: Fantasies, Dreams, Spirit, and Shapeshifting

... one of the most profound things I had learned from Quechua, Shuar, Javanese, and Tibetan teachers while writing my last book: that fantasies must be enjoyed, they serve essential functions. I had learned the importance of honoring them, but not giving them the energy to materialize. "That's the difference," I added. "Dreams are things we want to turn into reality. Fantasies are not. The trouble is, often we have difficulty making the distinction."
"Intent becomes muddled. So the fantasies come true."
"And we find ourselves in deep trouble."
"Wondering why it happened."
"The plain truth is we gave it the energy to happen because we believed the fantasies were dreams." This brought up a question I had puzzled over. "Viejo Itza, you say that shapeshifting is all about energy.  But what about spirit? Where does it fit in?"
"Spirit is energy."
"It is?"
"Energy is everything."
"So when people say they see spirits, it is the energy they see."

November's Energy in 2011 is The Wing

This is the month to feel free, dear readers! As revealed by my check-in with the Star+Gate Cards, the energy for this month of November is The Wing:

"A Time for Peace" Ornament from Zazzle.com/jan4insight*

The Wing is about our inner freedom, inspiration, and liberation. It's the gift of being open to all of the possibilities and potentials within us. And like all spiritual gifts, it cries out to be used: We are called to extend that sense of liberation to others. Because "no one is free when others are oppressed," we must offer spiritual freedom to others if we are to be truly free ourselves.

Under the Star+Gate system, The Wing is part of the House of the Illumination, which relates to Sagittarius in western astrology. That's my sign! And indeed, freedom and questing for the truth are hallmarks of every Sajie I've ever known and loved. Major themes for this month involve the search for our truest values and beliefs. Our connection to the higher realms will strengthen, impelling us towards a broader perspective as we experience the alchemy of  "holding the contradiction."

Notable Quote: from The Stages of Life

The serious problems of life are never fully solved. If they should appear that they are, this is the sign that something has been lost. The meaning and design of a problem seem not to lie in its solution, but in our working at it incessantly. This alone preserves us from stultification and putrefaction.

Sneak Peek at October's Energy: The Stone

Perhaps it's time to plant your feet and sit still for a bit, dear readers. The prevailing energy-weather for October 2011 centers on The Stone:

Stone image (c) Jan Burch 2011

This energy tells us to practice the attitudes of Integrity and Steadfastness. Even though it feels hard to the touch, The Stone is part of the water-element depth of emotions. The key phrase is "I Feel." As we practice staying the course and going with what feels right within, we get in touch with our own Self and our boundaries. We build awareness of the Soul.

Autumn Equinox Forecast: The Tunnel, The Candle, The Water

Happy Autumn, fellow-travelers! It's just hours until the Autumn Equinox, which reaches us today at 3:05 pm Mountain Time. If I seem a little dreamy today, it's because Autumn is my favorite season and we've already been getting a preview of fall's glorious weather here in Albuquerque. In honor of this seasonal transition, I went to my Star+Gate cards and pulled up this forecast reading:

Where we are now, dear readers, is The Tunnel ~

Despite its seeming darkness, the Tunnel offers us a great gift - the ability to process our inner connections. It's like all the various aspects of self coming together in harmonious dialogue. The result is greater accessibility to others. Notice that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. That is symbolized in this reading by the Candle, which is the energy coming up for us in the next 4 to 6 weeks.

The Candle reminds us to remain faithful to long-range plans, affairs and goals - and it promises fulfillment of our dreams. It is paired with the Star of Reaching, which supports us in focusing our energy as we channel our efforts to a specific direction. Our higher selves want us to pay attention to the Water, which is the energy of feelings and emotion. While it can be overwhelming, this rush of energy also purifies - carrying away the old to make room for the new. Perhaps a cleansing practice or ritual is in order as fall comes in.

Major themes of this reading involve balancing this emotional energy with our thinking faculties. If you are embarking on a new project, this is the time to gather information and prepare yourself to launch ahead. You cerebral types should remember to inquire, not judge, as you do this. And for everyone, the autumn harvest brings forth celebration, so it's a great season to communicate and socialize! Anyone up for a hayride? :)

Notable Quote: A Cult of Ignorance

I saw this quote going around, and posted it on Facebook:
There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there always has been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'" - Isaac Asimov, column in Newsweek (21 January 1980)

And one of my friends commented:
Interesting. And especially who said it. Also, true. Is the celebration of ignorance just laziness, or what? (don't worry, I'm being rhetorical)
To which I replied:
Good rhetorical question ;) I think Asimov nailed it with the part about the flase notion of democracy. Ya know, one thing the Tbaggers hate about us 'liberal elitist scum' is that they think we think we're better than them (because among other things, we're smarter and better educated). Well, any normal person would use such feelings of envy as motivation to better themselves. But the tbaggers use it as an excuse to lash out and destroy everything good they can get their hands, to drag everything down to their level. They remind me of the Morlocks in Huxley's Brave New World.
Okay, I got the Morlocks wrong. They were from H.G.Wells's The Time Machine. Anyway, when I Googled the term to check which novel they came from, this little gem came up:

E - er's race of
L - little
O - odd looking cattle
I - inevitably to be eaten by the...
M - monsterous creatures
O - of the underground
R - ruling the world
L - like a species
O - of
C - crazy
K - killer mole/apes in
S - suprimeity.
Hmm, ring any bells? Just think ... tonight's GOTP debate was highlighted by audience applauding for the idea that someone without health insurance could be left to die in a coma. Crazy Killer mole/apes they are. Let's hope - and work - to make sure they NEVER acheive "supremeity."

September 2011: The Energy is The Rod

With September (heralding Autumn - my favorite season) upon us, dear readers, I have taken a look at the energy/intuitive weather forecast for the month. Get ready to take charge, because September's energy is The Rod ~

The Rod is a quality of attitude - which immediately puts us in the driver's seat for the month. I often say, attitudes are where you have control because they're the only things you can control! The Rod's energy supports us in taking command, being in charge of our own lives. It must, however, be wielded with discretion. This is not about exercising power over others, but rather claiming internal power to walk your path and fulfill your destiny.

The Rod is about learning from the give-and-take of interacting with others, and applying that power to create the next new cycle. It may involve some action on your part to break up old patterns, allowing for new energy to emerge, and fostering a new softness within. Note: if it comes to you to break something, remember to keep all the parts so you can put it back together if needed!

With Mercury Retrograde out of the way (and not returning until November), and the Autumn Equinox approaching (on September 23), this is great time to get a personalized reading of your energy cycles! My intuitive readings can ordered online at EclecticaByJan.etsy.com. You can also visit my website GeoGlowConsulting.com for information about all of my sales and services.

How to Survive Mercury Retrograde

Mercury Retrograde is upon us, dear readers, having arrived at 9:50 pm Mountain time last night. It will be here until 4:03 pm on August 26. Since this astrological phenomenon always brings out the "Oh, noes!" among those who know, I'm reposting this from an earlier write-up that gives my best advice on how to survive Mercury Retrograde:
This is a good time to take a break. We always dread Mercury Retrograde because when the planet of communication appears to go backwards, a lot of our plans get messed up. And it's true, we should be careful about taking on new ventures, because it's not an auspicious time to move forward. Also, always double-check on important emails, faxes, letters, etc. Expect some delays, especially towards the end of the cycle.

But if it's our attachment to plans that causes us grief during this time, well, lose the attachment! (You've heard the one about the Zen master who gave away his vacuum cleaner because it had too many attachments....groan.) Maybe you can't move forward during this time but you can rest and re-group. Here are some Good Things to do during Mercury Retrograde:

~take lots of naps ~watch a favorite old movie ~contact an old friend you haven't heard from in a while ~finish reading a good book, or complete an art, craft, or sewing project ~clean out your desk, a closet, or the garage ~get outdoors; putter around in your yard or take a walk and enjoy the day.

Since these are some of my favorite activities - especially the naps! - I've actually begun to look forward to Mercury Retrogrades. It's like a spring break the Universe gives us three times a year. (It's also a good time for bodywork or a past-life reading; visit my website GeoGlowConsulting.com for information about my services.) And when we're rested and refreshed, we'll be able to move forward with renewed energy for the next phase the Universe brings to us.

I'll be back soon. Meanwhile, I'm going to take a nap..zzzzzz....

August 2011 Energy: The Serpent's Challenge

The month of August 2011 is more than an ordinary month, dear readers! The 2nd of August brings us Lammas Day, our next cross-quarter, and a day to celebrate the harvest time of high summer. That evening, at 9:50 pm Mountain time, Mercury Retrograde takes place once again. This is the time, influenced by the apparent backward motion of the planet of communication, when more things than usual seem to wrong. So perhaps it's to be expected that the card-based communication I received from my guides centers on The Serpent ~

Where we are now, fellow-travelers, is The Serpent. This represents the challenge of facing your fears and going with what feels right within. Sometimes you have to confront what you know through instinct and cut through the natural tendency to bury innate knowledge that isn't convenient. On the plus side, the Serpent is an energy of power and transformation. Think of a snake shedding its skin - vulnerable and restless while the peeling-off takes place, then grown into the next phase of development as it discards what isn't needed and slides away.

Coming up ahead of us is The Wind, the challenge of adapting to changes. The way through this challenge is to be like a supple tree that sways in the wind, instead of stiffened old trunk that can break under the air pressure. Our higher selves want us to pay attention to The Morning - the gift of renewal. Within each of us is the capacity to "start over" again, bringing into being the freshness of a new day at any moment of the old.

Resolving this month's challenges requires the help of The Fog. At first it seems like a state of confusion, when everything is surrounded with a muffled gray blanket that dulls the senses and blocks our view. It's best to simply sit with the Fog until it lifts. Fog can, after all, feel cooling and refreshing after a long dry spell.

Also helping is The Knife - the act of cutting away what doesn't suit us. This can be anything from cleaning out a closet to discarding major habits and thought forms that are in our way. It's very appropriate, too, because the act of clearing out - your closet, garage, desk, etc. - is well-supported by Mercury Retrograde's energy. I often recommend such activities to my clients at this time, and undertake them myself. Hmm, I have this cluttered craft room that badly needs a clearing-out...

Major themes this month involve emotions and caring. It's a time to nurture ourselves by satisfying inner needs, which in turn makes us more able to connect and feel the power that comes from combining with others. Get in touch with yourself and your boundaries, then go out and practice some give and take. Mercury Retrograde ends on August 26 at 4:03 pm, so we'll have a few days at the end of the month to look back on these lessons and review how we've approached them.

Hydrogen Fueling Stations - the future is now

Hydrogen fueling stations for hydrogen fueled cars - it's the wave of the future! Hydrogen fueled and HCNG (hydrogen-natural gas) blend cars may sound like a science-fiction dream, but in fact the production of hydrogen vehicles has outstripped the availability of hydrogen fueling stations.

That's where Powertech Labs can help! Powertech Labs has the expertise in design and customization of portable, small-scale hydrogen fueling stations. The stations are parked where needed and then refilled with compressed hydrogen for remote refueling of hydrogen vehicles. We can provide hydrogen for short term needs in any remote location, which is ideal for companies with a commercial hydrogen fleet or for businesses that require on-site refueling capabilities.

Notable Quote: They Don't Think With Their Brains

People don't always think with their brains. A recent study by Berkeley marketing professor Clayton Crichter and his colleague found that, regardless of their political beliefs, students in a hot room tended to believe that global warming was irrefutable. Similarly, students who were fed pretzels without water were more likely than those who had eaten none to believe that desertification would present a real threat to humanity's sources of fresh water. A second Berkeley study found that giving people hope at the end of an article about global warming tended to make them more likely to believe the message than if they were told it was simply too late to do anything.

Independence Day musings: "Ever Vigilant" on the Fourth of July

Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty ~ Wendell Philips, American abolitionist, orator, and author, 1811-1884. I have been musing over this timeless statement, dear readers, as Fourth of July approaches in this year of 2011. Enjoy the design this inspired, and have a safe and happy Fourth of July ~

"Ever Vigilant" Vintage Patriotic poster from Zazzle.com

From a vintage image, this noble lady bears a sword in one hand and the Stars & Stripes in the other. Dressed in patriotic red, white, and blue, she stands guard over our national liberties - ever vigilant in the quest for freedom.

Forecast for July 2011: The Challenge of the Rose

Happy First of July, dear readers! Yes, it's Canada Day today so a tip of the hat to our neighbors to the north. And for all of us, I've prepared the following forecast of our intuitive-energy weather this month. Enjoy the beauty, and beware the thorns - July's energy is The Rose:

Pink Spirit Rose print

The Rose, where we are now, is the challenge of reaching perfection. The key to this challenge is simple: Allow the perfection to unfold naturally. That's easier said than done, especially for those who are perfectionists! Remember, the Rose is a living thing. You prepare the ground, plant the roots, water and nurture it. Do you then try to force the roses to bloom?

Coming up ahead of us is The Robe, the challenge of our roles and identities. Career-related issues - especially tension around work-life balance - are highlighted under this energy, so this month may be a good time to take a look at that area of your life. Ultimately, the answer this challenge is to recognize that all play many roles on our journey through a lifetime - and they all have they place, neither too big nor too small. If all the world's a stage, we may as well play with the roles we're playing.

Our higher selves want us to pay attention to The Wheel of our destiny, our karma, and our life history. That sounds like a tall order for one little month, but know it's about gaining perspective. Our life experiences add to our karmic "resume." What knowledge or wisdom - or story - are you gaining from what you're experiencing today?

Major themes for this month involve our work and service in the world. It's also a good time to access our own healing qualities, and to refine our perception so we can see the truth and not be easily fooled. The energy peaks early, around July 4-5, leaving the rest of the month to put into practice the insights we've gained during this coming week.

Summer Solstice energy preview: The Mountain

Gad - I've been so busy with new blogs, new Twitter accounts, and restoring photos for client friend, that I let the Summer Solstice sneak up on me! It arrives tomorrow, dear readers, and though I don't have time right now to do a full reading - I can at least give you this preview:

Summer Solstice this year arrives on June 21 at 11:17 am Mountain time. The energy pattern that will be ushered in is exemplified by The Mountain

This is the fulfillment of perserverance, and at the same time it's a beginning, a birth of new consciousness. Be willing to explore new spaces, fellow-travelers, and keep on putting one foot in front of the other as you "climb every mountain!"

9 pm and the moon is orange!

Many of my Facebook friends in Albuquerque have been posting pictures of the red-orange sunsets we've had recently: smoke from the massive forest fires in Arizona has drifted in and is altering our air and our sunsets. Well, here's a picture of our smoky orange MOON ~ I stepped outside around 9 this evening and caught these snaps of the half moon, high in the sky but with a distinct yellow-orange tone that you normally see when it's closer to the horizon:

We've been breathing the smoke on and off for almost a week now. It's hard; I know some folks bronchitis and asthma who are prepared to evacuate if the breathing gets too hard. But it's not nearly as bad as what the folks in the vicinity of the fire are going through - evacuations, loss of homes, loss of livelihood. This article {click here} has a good summary of the fire size, conditions, and impacts, so I will say no more except to wish safety for all who are affected, and a return of less wind and more moisture!

Intuitive Forecast for June 2011: The Maiden and The Butterfly

The new month of June is at hand, dear readers, and it's a special month on the energy plane. In addition to the upcoming summer solstice, this June is bracketed by three lunar and solar eclipses! Eclipses (I'll the exact dates in a bit) always "amp up" the prevailing intuitive energy patterns, as well as help us to shake loose from old patterns and reinvigorate new growth. With that, I'll let my reading from the StarGate Cards reveal the intuitive-energy patterns we'll enjoy this month.

The prevailing energies for June 2011 are The Butterfly and The Maiden:

Where we are now, fellow travelers, is The Butterfly: light-hearted and carefree, we can nevertheless sense a new energy emerging from within. Meanwhile, the universe is sending us a Letter full of symbols and stories to be brought into reality. Pay attention to your dreams this month!

Our foundational energies are the Tongue and the Circle. We've been given gifts that let us communicate effectively, as well as inspire participation with others. Perhaps we should put these gifts to good use, for example by gathering people together to protect and care for theEarth. At an energetic level, the resources, stability, and structure of earth symbols such as square shapes, ceramics, and yellow-tan colors, will give us a helpful grounding essence during these rapid-change times.

Coming up ahead of us is the Glove, the attitude of expressing intention through actions, while at the same time accepting the assistance that comes to us. Even as we step into and claim our authenticity, we should know we don't have to go it alone! Helping us move into this future of give-and-take is the Maiden. Like the sweet little girl in the illustration, Maiden energy exemplifies the side of us that seeks the best for everyone. She symbolizes purity, beauty, and gentleness - yet at the core she remains uncompromised. A strong hand in a velvet glove, perhaps.

The Maiden's goddess energy is perfect for attuning to the moon's cycles.
Here are the dates and times (Mountain time zone) for the June/July eclipses:
June 1 ~ Solar eclipse (new moon) in Gemini at 3:03 pm
June 15 ~ Lunar eclipse (full moon) in Sagittarius at 2:14 pm
July 1 ~ Solar eclipse (new moon) in Cancer at 2:54 am

All the major themes for this forecast involve relationships - partnerships, agreements, combining energy with others. As we examine our relationship with the Universe that birthed us all, we come into clarity regarding how we interact with others. If we use this time wisely, better and more peaceful relationships can be the gift of this month's eclipses.

Beltane to Solstice Forecast: the intuitive energy is The Wing

It's a cold and blustery Beltane in northern New Mexico, dear readers, but that just means we have more wind beneath our wings! And that's a good thing, because my intuitive forecast for now to the Summer Solstice gives us the prevailing energy of The Wing:

"Divine Wings" pattern by Jan Burch

Where we fellow-travelers are now is The Wing, which gives us the gift of inspiration and liberation - the ability to find inner freedom and inspire its release in others. Coming up ahead of us is The Child, our expression of new energy emerging within us. I have the feeling we'll be like toddlers exploring their world for the next several weeks; let's hope we activate some guiding parent energy to keep us from breaking things!

Our higher selves want us to pay attention to The Chair, the executive gift of evaluation and positioning. If ever there was a time to find our proper place, this energy supports it. Perhaps as these spring winds settle down, we'll have found our place to put down roots when summer comes a-rollin' in.

Major themes for this reading involve connecting and comparing ourselves with our surroundings - including the planetary environment we depend upon for our life support - as well as refining our perceptions, analyzing information, and extending our work and service to the world. This might not be a bad time to educate ourselves about Global Climate Change and re-commit to doing all we can to reduce our personal impact on our Mother Earth. Just a simple step like recycling, or carrying a re-usable shopping bag would make a huge difference if we all did it! This forecast remains in effect to the Summer Solstice which will occur on June 21 at 11:17 am Mountain Daylight Time.
