By now, the Christmas dinner has been consumed, the presents have been opened, and we can look forward to the festivities that ring in the New Year. It's always a good time for looking back at the past year, and the Universe has given us a little bit of an energy-gift to encourage those endeavors: It's called Mercury Retrograde.
.
Yes, dear readers, that regularly-occurring timespan that make us pull our hair at all the foul-ups, lost e-mails, and misfires in our communication attempts, begins on December 26 at 7:38 am Mountain Time, and ends January 15 at 9:52 am. Since 12/26 is also known as Boxing Day - the time when you're supposed to pack up those gifts you didn't want and return them - this Retrograde business might not be a bad thing. In fact, this whole cycle has a lot to do with you have and what you want!
Let's see what the cards have to say ~
Let's see what the cards have to say ~

The cycle begins with much illumination, fellow-travelers; just please don't be standing on a ridge-top when the Lightning flash shakes up the sky. Ahead of us, the Ice can be slippery - but see through it and it's clear as glass. What are you paying attention to, traveler? You can throw down the Glove in challenge, or you can pick it up, put it on, and extend a helping hand in confidence that it will be met. Your helper is the Tree that shelters, protects, and withstands the test of time; your rewards are found in the Cake of conscious celebration.
.
This cycle will find us focusing on resources at all levels, including the good stuff: pleasures and comforts & joys. If we can rise above the tension between I Have and I Want (really, is a disappointing Christmas present the end of the world?), we can look to some higher levels in which to play out these energies: choose quality, and create substance; it's part of how we own the fire. This is also a good time for cleansing the mind and the body - which might be especially welcome after all those holiday indulgences :) Or, you could just make - and keep - a New Year's resolution to clean out that closet!
.
The energies of this cycle peak immediately, now through December 27, so you've got nearly all of this 3-week time span to put into place the lessons you get this weekend. For those who follow my CycleCasts, be sure to check back in a week, when I'll be posting my special CycleCast for the New Year of 2010!

Hi Jan,
Thanks for the heads up on Retrograde! I usually find out about it through my best girlfriend. She seems to be particularly affected by it and usually figures it out the hard way (when multiple things go wrong or break down, then she googles it to find out). I'm looking forward to your beginning of the year forecast.
I hope you are enjoying a wonderful holiday season!
Hugs,
Karen
Thanks Jan,
This is fascinating. I know someone whose behaviour changes dramatically around this period. We often put it down to the festive period and new year, but this explains a possible deeper reason.
I'm going to look into this in more detail, so thankyou for writing your blog.
