Cyclecast for Mercury Retrograde (1/28 - 2/18), and how to survive it

Chill out, fellow-travelers. If the last posts on Pluto's transit didn't seem dark enough, now we're coming up on Mercury Retrograde. The first pass in 2008 begins January 28 at 1:31 pm Mountain time, and ends on February 18 at 7:57 pm, and we'll have two more this year. Note, Mercury always goes retrograde three or sometimes four times a year - so get used to it! Let's see what the CycleCast says:

Our seeking is complete, fellow-travelers; our insights are in place; our exploring is done for now. We are perfectly posed at the top of the climb. Let us rest for a while before the next cycle spins us forward - ripe for the plucking and ready to get involved again.

This sounds like a good time to take a break! We always dread Mercury Retrograde because when the planet of communication appears to go backwards, a lot of our plans get messed up. And it's true, we should be careful about taking on new ventures, because it's not an auspicious time to move forward. Also, always double-check on important emails, faxes, letters, etc. Expect some delays, especially towards the end of the cycle.

But if it's our attachment to plans that causes us grief during this time, well, lose the attachment! (You've heard the one about the Zen master who gave away his vacuum cleaner because it had too many attachments....groan.) Maybe you can't move forward during this time but you can rest and re-group. Here are some Good Things to do during Mercury Retrograde:

~take lots of naps ~watch a favorite old movie ~contact an old friend you haven't heard from in a while ~finish reading a good book, or complete an art, craft, or sewing project ~clean out your desk, a closet, or the garage ~get outdoors; putter around in your yard or take a walk and enjoy the crisp winter air

Since these are some of my favorite activities - especially the naps! - I've actually begun to look forward to Mercury Retrogrades. It's like a spring break the Universe gives us three times a year. (It's also a good time for bodywork or a past-life reading; visit my website http://www.geoglowconsulting.com/ for information about my services.) And when we're rested and refreshed, we'll be able to move forward with renewed energy for the next phase the Universe brings to us.

I'll be back in a week or so with another post. Meanwhile, I'm going to take a nap..zzzzzz....

Thoughts on a little shift towards a big cycle in the sky...

Greetings, fellow-travelers. As you can see in the post below, I've done a new CycleCast for a small but momentous event: Pluto is transiting out of 12 (long) years in Sagittarius and moving into Capricorn. I'm a Sag who has lived through the grinding-down-to-a-powder effect of Pluto moving through my sun sign. I made this casting to help me understand, and honor, the significance of this moment.

Keep in mind that I am a Geomancer - I study and divine subtle earth energies - not an astrologer. But because our Earth is a heavenly body and it's all connected, I've had to develop a good working knowledge of astrology. I claim no special expertise, only what I've read and had illuminated by my own guidance.

Because Pluto is the outermost of the planets, it has the most global effects on the collective unconsciousness. Astrologers who know more than me have said that this last cycle of Pluto in Sagittarius has energized the world-wide rise we've seen of religious fundamentalism. And there is NO FUN in fundamentalism! Besides, how unflattering to us Sagittarians! How could the most freedom-loving of zodiacal energies lead to the imprisoning of our world with these rigid beliefs?

A little reflection on the nature of Sagittarius leads me to recall that Sag energy has other, less endearing characteristics (besides chronic klutziness and foot-in-mouth disease). We do tend to be idealistic and opinionated - yes, even me. The Sagittarius keyword is "I Perceive," and when we glimpse the truth, by golly, we want to make sure the whole world sees what we see. Self-righteousness is the next step downward.

This cycle, of course, applies to the mass consciousness of humanity. Each individual responds differently, and it's not about what your sun sign is - it's about how our individual choices add up to the whole. Regrettably, the movement now seems to be further away from inner liberation and instead we keep seeing more and more of the insanity of self-righteous zealotry. Witness some of the crazy statements being made on both sides of the national popularity contest we call an election.

This movement is unsustainable, yet it seems to go on, and on. I began this study seeking reassurance, because I want it to be over, to see sanity and compassion return to the public arena. And although my casting says that, indeed, the cycle is complete, the stars will give us another chance to review the lesson when Pluto goes retrograde this spring. Pluto will go back into Sagittarius on June 14, turn direct on September 10, and move into Capricorn on November 27. Notice how these dates encompass the election cycle - which gives us another opportunity to express the positive Sagittarian energies of truth and freedom, clear perception, optimism and highest global awareness. I hope and pray we get it right this time!

And what lies ahead with Pluto in Capricorn? The last time this placement prevailed was during the years 1762-1777 - which included signing the Declaration of Independence! Maybe another revolution is in store; if so, may it encompass the positive Capricorn energies of prudence and conscientiousness, reliability, strong manifesting of light out of darkness, and ability to access Light and Love everywhere.

Back to the personal level, this contemplation on the up and downside of Sagittarius (and all signs have their downside) has brought me to realize the great gift I've received from Pluto's transforming energy: Humility. Heads up, Capricorns, now its your turn.

CycleCast for 1/25/08 and Beyond: Pluto moves into Capricorn

The previous cycle (Pluto in Sagittarius) began in 1994 and ends on Friday, January 25, at 8:44 pm Mountain time. In the beginning, we took the uniformed Egg of truthful freedom, and Impulsively leaped up the Mountain of idealism. We forgot that many paths lead to the same destination; the zealots battled for control while laying waste to the garden. The Rose we were given to nurture now survives in scattered, sunny islands, protected by her thorns.

Breathe easy, fellow-travelers, the cycle is completed. We are stepping through the movements of merging, to being, to wanting, to thinking and feeling.

And now a new cycle begins. We'll dance between our impulse to bow to the essence of each other, or to go inward; between our inner truths and our highest transcendence. As we look ahead to the new, Capricorn-influenced flavor of Pluto's transforming influence, may our reaching be illuminated by the light of clarity.

Hold carefully the Egg, fellow-travelers; its curious potential is yet unformed. Let the Impulse to live free deliver you up the Mountain, where we can all be free, together. Your job now is to allow the Rose to bloom: prepare the ground, plant the seed, water and nurture, and never ever pluck it before its time.

My website is up, and some new posts are coming.

Patience, fellow-travelers. I've edited and re-edited my new website, and now it's ready for viewing at www.GeoGlowConsulting.com. It's also linked when you view my complete profile.

With that task done, I'm contemplating the next CycleCasts. We have the dreaded Mercury Retrograde coming up on January 28, but even before then we see Pluto leaving the sign of Sagittarius (my sign) and going into Capricorn. That calls for some consciousness! Since I really want to understand this shift, I've already pulled the cards and I'm contemplating their message for the next post. Check back in about five days. Meanwhile, peace to all.

CycleCast for 2008: the Reading

CWelcome to 2008, fellow-travelers, and if you've been feeling stuck lately, it's not your whimsy - it's in the psychic weather.

We came out of 2007 full of fire, with the passion of the Lover and the dominating radiance of the Sun. The ride was thrilling, but it left us worn down to a Powder. Not a good feeling, but the dross has burned away to leave us purely ready for transformation. Rest easy, that challenge is now behind us.

At the present time we're ready to flow, to Draw Forth new energy after letting go of old, to mix with others like water seeking its own level. Only what's that Block in front of us? Do we go around it, plow through it, or blow it up? Once we put on our thinking caps and resolve this problem, it will lift us up to the next step: march forth.

Ahead of us, the coming year looks more peaceful. With our Candle gently glowing, we can rest in the Earth's structure and soak up the mature wisdom of our being's spreading Tree. If we're feeling indecisive, that's okay; the answer will come in its own time.

It helps to go within, to sift through our treasure Chest of stored memories and feelings and things we know but aren't using. Watch out, though, for that seductive, dark Knight who would lead us down the rocky path of rigid ideals. We'll be fine if we just stay flexible.

This is a lot to remember, so I've boiled it down into a few themes. Read the post below...

CycleCast for 2008: the Themes

If you've been feeling ready to charge ahead, fellow-travelers, and wondering where that Block came from, know that it's in the dance of the psychic weather: step, stop, step again. The Universe hit the pause button for us at the turn of the year. Breathe easy; this stuckness is passing even as I write.

Overall, 2008 will be a year of quiet seeking, at least on the surface, and perhaps energized by bolts out of the blue. This can be a good thing for travelers who are willing to stay flexible.

Another theme is emphasis on self-expression. Will this be a year of creative flowering, or of self-obsessed vanity? It's your choice, traveler, because right now you are in the driver's seat.

The year's energies may see-saw between the motive of I Want: fulfilling our deepest desires and reveling in physical comfort; and the drive to Expand: to manifest our highest hopes, go beyond our limits, and and strive to freedom for self and for all. It's time to marry your personal will with the Will of the Universe.

For a look at the energies that will help you keep in step with this dance, read the post below...

CycleCast for 2008: the Resolution

Why reach for the slippery ICE, traveler? Because you yearn for its clarity and cooling; because its melt reminds you that outer change does not alter inner essence.

Sitting in INDECISION now, traveler? No worries; the LIGHTNING bolt will come soon enough: regeneration follows.

Chose carefully to whom you pass the CROWN, traveler. You hold within the answer, the KEY. Grasp it lightly, and stay limber.
